One of the research fields to which Falco, the founder of damanhur is very committed is that of ‘selfic painting’: the use of ‘intelligent’ energies through two-dimensional forms based on signs and colours.
Selfic paintings are kept active through the use of light and the attention of the observer. The colours shapes and signs are alive, animate and in constant transformation. They project signals and information into the surrounding environment and towards their users.
The key for reading the paintings is given by the exact combination of title and form. At certain points the brush stokes of colour create relief and uneveness: the way in which the sign is traced is a reality in itself which informs the viewer beyond the aesthetic apects of the painting.
Almost all the selfic paintings have different characterisitics if seen in different light, for example daylight and ultra-violet light and reveal the different meanings of each painting. Many paintings placed alonside one another create a different effect to a single painting because they live in symbiosis and encroach on one another. The selfic paintings have an aura which corresponds to their size. The paintings call upon the observer to be directly involved in their reading and interpretation through sensorial and rational experience. They interact, provoking dreams, facilitating new understanding and re-awakening dormant potential.
